Key properties

The manganese steel, also called «Hadfield» name of its inventor, is used in cases of wear parts requested to shocks and compression. Its austenitic structure is superficially transformed by work hardening.
Its hardness can reach over 500 HB which increases its wear resistance. Under this layer, the alloy retains exceptional toughness. Its unstable austenitic structure doesn’t allow a use over 300 ° C.
This steel has the non-magnetic distinction (It may have a magnetic skin following the high-temperature heat treatment which causes surface decarburization).

SBM12

  • Manufacturing process: the electric arc furnace, Basic coating. Process controlled by spectrometric analysis and temperature monitoring of each step until the casting.
  • Hardness: 200 to 250 HB, 500 to 600 HB after work hardening.
  • Machining: not so optimal, but the turning, milling and planning are possible under appropriate conditions.
  • Main markets: Mining and quarrying, cement and refractory, public works, steel, fishing.
  • Products : grinding parts and crushers ( jaw , gyratory ,rollers, grinding rolls ) liners , blow bars , hammers , buckets, dredges , chains, links, teeth, trawl doors soles, pipe bends .

SBM121

SBM 121 is an austenitic manganese steel, enhanced by the addition of 1.5 % chromium.

  • Manufacturing process: the electric arc furnace, Basic coating. Process controlled by spectrometric analysis and temperature monitoring of each step until the casting.
  • Hardness: 200 to 250 HB, 550 to 600 HB after work hardening.
  • Machining: very average, but the turning, milling and planning are possible under appropriate conditions.
  • Main markets: Mining and quarrying, cement and refractory, public works, steel, industrial fishing.
  • Application: grinding parts and crushers (jaw, gyratory, rollers, grinding rolls) liners, blow bars, hammers, buckets, dredges, chains, links, teeth, trawl doors soles, pipe bends.

SBM182

The SBM 182 is an austenitic steel to 18 % manganese and 2 % chromium specially adapted to massive parts.

  • Manufacturing process: the electric arc furnace, Basic coating. Process controlled by spectrometric analysis and temperature monitoring of each step until the casting.
  • Hardness: 230 to 260 HB, HV2> 600 in surface after work hardening.
  • Machining: very average, but the turning, milling and planning are possible under appropriate conditions.
  • Main markets: Same as Hadfield steel which are used with high pressure or high intensity shocks plus abrasion by intense erosion.

SBM203

SBM 203 is an austenitic steel with high manganese -enhanced work hardening.

  • Manufacturing process: the electric arc furnace, Basic coating. Process controlled by spectrometric analysis and temperature monitoring of each step until the casting.
  • Hardness: HB ≈ 240, HV2 ≈ 650 in surface after work hardening.
  • Machining: not so optimal, but the turning, milling and planning are possible under appropriate conditions.
  • Main markets: Same as Hadfield steel which are used with high pressure or high intensity shocks and abrasion by intense erosion.
